Winter Ocean

The good thing about living in Portland is that you can see the ocean whenever you want. I have a thing for the ocean, even though I never swim and don’t even put my feet into the water, I love to look at it. Winter ocean always smells like frozen sea weed to me. It brings up happy memory from my childhood: part of my family lives on the northern coast of the Black Sea in Crimea. And as a child I used to spend all my school breaks there. I used to say that it would be so great to get up every morning and go to the beach and see the sea. And for some reason I never thought about tropics. I used to imagine going for a morning walks to the snowy seaside with frozen sand, ice cold water and heavy grey sky over my head. My dream came true in some sort of way, I guess.
